I’m currently trying to keep my Swan Queen obsession at a manageable level. It’s a constant battle between expectation & reality.

My expectation is that Swan Queen will happen. It’s simply a matter of time. A lot of people I know don’t ship Swan Queen on the basis that they see Emma & Regina as bitter enemies. I can understand that. I mean, my view on Swan Queen, at the moment, is that I don’t see them as currently being secretly madly in love with each other. What I see is the potential for them to realize that they are madly in love with each other. I was a big Guiding Light “Otalia” shipper so the fact that Emma & Regina are perceived as hating each other does not deter me from shipping them. Olivia & Natalia started out hating each other, however, through circumstances bringing them together they ended up falling in love. Swan Queen parallels this is so many ways. It’s easy for me to see Emma gradually coming to understand Regina & sympathize with her. I think if a big bad came along even worse than Regina, I can easily see Emma & Regina teaming up. They have so much in common. Both love Henry more than anything, both have a past where they have felt unhappy, lonely & unloved. They’re both emotionally damaged. They just deal with it differently.

Now, for the reality. I’m bracing myself for the eventuality that Swan Queen will not happen. Yes, the fact that they have started dropping hints that Regina is bisexual fills my heart with joy & hope but it’s still a big leap to full on Swan Queen. I pray that the network is brave enough to give us Swan Queen but I have my doubts. I’m so sick of Hollywood stars doing promo stints for “It gets better.” But Artie on Glee was right. I don’t want it to get better in some far off, distant future. I want it to be better NOW. I don’t want stars to be saying it’s okay to be gay, yet have a huge number of them be closeted because they are too afraid to come out for fear of damaging their careers. How is that better? When you have to pretend to be straight?

Drop the hypocrisy. Give us Swan Queen. That’ll really make things better… Actions speak louder than soundbites…
